Marla to square feet, explained

10 May 2026 · 4 min read

Quick conversions for Pakistan property sizes—and why city standards can differ.

Listings in Pakistan usually quote size in Marla, Kanal, or square feet. Knowing the conversion helps you compare houses across cities and avoid surprises when a “10 Marla” home feels smaller than expected.

Common conversions

A widely used rule of thumb is 1 Marla ≈ 272 square feet (some cities historically used 225 sq ft). 1 Kanal = 20 Marla ≈ 5,445 sq ft when using the 272 standard. 1 Acre ≈ 8 Kanal.

Always confirm which standard the society or authority uses. DHA, LDA, and CDA documents may specify exact dimensions in feet for the plot you are buying.

Covered area vs plot size

Plot size is the land footprint. Covered or built-up area is the constructed floor space and is often smaller. When comparing apartments, ask for net carpet area as well as gross covered area.

On Housify search, use beds, type, and city filters together with size so you compare like-for-like homes—not just the Marla number in the title.
